the dog

Remember back in June when I wrote about Phinley and Keaton??

Here's a little update...

The dog drives me nuts most days :)
Actually, that's a lie. He used to drive me nuts, then we got a doggie door and most of his whining to go in and out and in and out and in and out.....was cut by 90%. That dog door was the best idea I've had in a long time! Go me! HA

So most of the time Phinley just wanders in and out, sleeps, eats, and sniffs around the house. There are actually days I forget he's even here, except on Tuesday when I forgot to put the diaper sausage up and got back from a run to find this....
What you can't see in this picture is the poopy diaper destroyed in the closet.

Ummmm.....bad dog.

Then he got a belly ache. I wonder why??
The next day I picked up that poopy diaper when I was picking up Phin's poop. Get it?? And I'm feeling like the word "poop" is kinda taking over this post right now. I know new Moms talk about poop a lot, but we're talking about the dog here.

ANYWAYS.....

We're still adjusting! I tend to highlight Phinley's naughty moments, because it's semi-funny and ridiculous, but most days he is still my loyal companion :)

{Even when he eats a bowl of chocolates at my parents house and barfs them up on the carpet. Cough. Gag. Worst smell e.v.e.r.}

He can most certainly be a pain and I'd be lying if I haven't said to Ryan on more than one occasion "I think we should get rid of the dog!!!" But I know in my heart I'd be so so sad to see Phin go! I know one day he & Keaton will be best friends.

Even now, Keaton watches Phinley's every move. Phin, I'm happy to say, could care less about Baby K. Phinley might swipe a lick on Keaton's head as he walks by, but overall Phin just leaves him alone!

I think only time will tell really about little dog's existence within our family! He really can't get much lower on the totem pole and once we add another baby Harris or 2 to the mix he might just be in the ground, but I'm sure HE won't love us any less.

Haha - we still love ya little dog ;0)

phinley and keaton

If you don't remember...

Before there was baby Keaton, there was baby Phinley 0:-)
He and I were a pair.

We did everything together, especially near the end of my pregnancy! When were weren't going for ridiculously long walks together, we were sitting and watching TV together. Or eating together. He and I both liked eating the most :)

He had me home almost all day everyday and was loving it.
 Enter new baby.

Naturally, I was a little concerned about how this would rock his world and how he would react.

The short of it is - he's doing awesome!

I had all these awesome plans to train him with specific baby commands before Keaton was born, but that just didn't happen. Haha! Go figure! My new plan was to stay positive and just jump in head first. We were a new family of 4 and everyone was going to have to get along or someone would be kicked out....and it wasn't going to be one of the 3 humans. HA!

Those first few days I didn't know what to expect. Phinley was beside himself with just the fact that we had so many guests, let alone a baby that was here to STAY!

He was mostly super curious! Every sound, movement, etc that Keaton made Phin was all over it! There were a few times we all jumped at his curiosity and poor Phin got a good ol' "bad dog!!" but after a few days and lots of sniffing we all calmed down :)
Mostly he just wanted to be apart of things and get to love on Keaton the way we were all doing.

OR...just not be completely forgotten.
 These three....
I love them.
The first 2 weeks we all were learning how to live together, but once my parents left and Ryan went back to work, Phinley, Keaton, and I got into our own groove and lucky for Phin....it was pretty much the same as before!!

We still went for walks...
watched TV...
 napped...
but now Phinley had me AND a new little best friend to do it all with!
Sure, he goes on little trash can rampages when I'm nursing Keaton and can't get up or do anything about it, but that's just simple clean up and really not that bad...he knocks them over for the sound effect I think and that's about it :-P

Ryan assured me early on that these 2 would be best buddies and have a lot of fun together - I think he's right.

weekend

Ryan worked all weekend, so it was pretty quiet around our house. Not for long ;0)

The weather was absolutely gorgeous!! Phinley and I went for some pretty long walks around the neighborhood -- it felt amazing to be outside and get some sun! I told Ryan on Saturday that Phin and I went for a 3.5 mile walk and instead of being impressed with ME being able to do that...he said..."WOW, that's like a marathon for a dog." HAHA. True. We were both pretty tired by the end!

Phinley will be in the best shape of his life by the time baby arrives. This isn't a good thing. We need to start sitting around more 0:-)

Saturday, I made a canvas tote for Baby H and filled it with some diapers, an extra outfit, and some burp clothes that can all just stay in the car. I borrowed my neighbors big embroidery hoop to use with my machine and it came out awesome! I'm so happy with it :) It's not completely centered or straight, but that's okay!! I'd post a picture, but it has baby's name nice and big across the middle. haha!

Everything around the house has been cleaned {a couple of times} and I've been trying to get the birth announcements picked out....might need to wait for newborn pictures first to see what goes the best.

Ryan is home today and doing lots of "his" chores. I feel like we should be spending all our time together as "special couple time" before the baby comes, but we just don't have time to do that. The oil needs changed some time! Honestly, though, I cherish time with just Ryan, but am also really looking forward to time as a family of 3!

Hope you all had a great weekend!!

phinley's rebellion.

Two things to start:
1) There are no pictures here - you wouldn't want to see any. Trust me.
2) I love our little dog..

As we've been getting ready for Little Man Harris to make our family officially 3, little dog has been in the back of my mind. He IS my first fur baby after all :)

Sure, he's extra work when we travel, have company over, or host house guests BUT he's been my loyal buddy all the long days and nights Ryan studied for his big SRO tests and when Ryan is at work. We've spent many a night together watching trash TV on the sofa. We walk for miles together. We cry at sappy YouTube videos. The point is....we have a 4 year history together and he's been there for me.

I know our lives will change once the baby is born and getting Phinley adjusted to the new member is certainly something I think about. He's already slowly getting bumped down to spot #2.

Sooo...how will he handle it all?

I have no.idea.

I have zero expectations and only hope he doesn't figure out how to dismantle the diaper genie and devour all that is nasty and wrong which goes in there.

We're getting really close now and I can't help but laugh when I think about how just most recently Phinley has shown us he's ready for Little Man to be born and be my new #1.

Example #1:
I started getting some items packed into a backpack {aka labor bag} to take to the hospital when we first go in. I'm packing another hospital bag, but this one is small and can easily be carried in and out when we first start panicking getting excited and think it's time, when really....it's not.

So Phinley found that backpack and took out every single thing. And spread it around our room. And chewed on the pack of gum.

From this little instance I hear him saying "Get rid of that bag. Stay home."

Example #2:
A few days ago, I finally took some time to take Phin for a walk. My back has been sore and the weather has been cold, so we've been staying in a lot.

He thanked me by barking like a maniac at a dead mouse on our back patio, then eating it.

Yes, you read that right.

I tried to run after him and get it from his mouth, but the sidewalk was covered in ice and I move s-l-o-w-l-y these days. I wasn't going to risk anything and he knew it. He let me get close enough to see the tail hang out of his mouth and then swallowed the entire thing whole.

Gag. Cough.

By this point I had called Ryan outside to check out what little dog had done and then we stared at him in disappointment.

I must have told Ryan 10x he was going to throw it up in the house somewhere and GUESS WHAT???

As soon as Ryan left for youth group, I went upstairs and found a pile of vomit {which was seriously 1/2 an entirely whole mouse - the head part...with eyes that looked into my soul} in the NURSERY!!!

Gag. Cough.

I honestly didn't know whether to laugh or start crying, so I laughed! Did you get that?! I laughed and then got my big belly down on the floor to clean up our dog's mouse vomit.

If that doesn't scream "I own this place!" I'm not sure what does.

Honestly though, for how nasty it was I couldn't stop laughing. I mean, really little dog? Was all that necessary?

We get the message.

This could all be very interesting come April ;0)

fluffernutter

I figured since Phinley will soon be kicked to the backseat in many many areas of my life come April, I'd give him a little spotlight today :)

It's just a bunch of pictures really, but common! He's so darn cute! Can you have too many pictures of a little fuzz head all in one place?

Recently, he has LOVED laying between our legs...always head at feet {and sometimes in my slipper :)}

He was all fancy in his polo shirt this day :-P

I was home from work sick this day....sweet company :)
And then there's days he just like to be....close {okay this is most days}!
And for the Grand Finale!
 Nice under bite...

 Rub my belly...
 Camera shy 0:-)
 Nice under bite...again. Haha!
Those are clean. Thanks.
He's my first baby - I won't deny this. I'm sure you'll see a tail or ear in posts to come, maybe even a "how Phinley is adjusting to Baby Harris" post, but that's probably it.

Love ya fluffernutter! Soak up all my hugs, kisses, and attention while you still can ;0)

cone head

What's more pathetic than a dog in a cone?

Not much.

Fuzzhead got an eye infection {possible scratch} a few days ago and is subject to the cone for a week.

Let's take a quick look back to his FIRST cone experience....
Big cone, little head.

And today
Big head, little cone.

Drops twice a day and lots of lovin' were the vets orders for a healthy pup in one week!
Actually, I added the "lovin" part -- just to be safe! :)

I'm pretty sure Phinley is LOVING this!

Pretty sure Ryan is too...bahaha!
