nice kitty

This past weekend at my sisters house was extra exciting because we took Phinley with us...

And they have a cat :0)

Gizmo {their cat} stayed in the basement {where she had a whole nice set up including food and comfort} most of the weekend.

She ventured out once to check out the sniffing, cute, teddy bear creature and was startled back to her hole sanctuary once Phinley saw her and exploded with excitement and barking!

I imagine Phinley was thinking something along these lines when Gizzy came into view:

A NEW FRIEND!?! DO YOU WANT TO PLAY? CAN I LICK YOU? WHAT KIND OF ANIMAL ARE YOU? OHHHH I DON'T CARE I LOVE YOU SO MUCH FOR JUST BEING YOU! LET'S CHASE EACH OTHER AROUND THE HOUSE! OKAY?

But then, she was gone and Phin would stop at nothing to try and find her. He did get pretty close when he reached her kitty door to the basement.

But since we didn't want him teasing or disturbing her too much {or scratching the wall to get to her!!} we had to put up a lock box blockade. Plus a water bottle for an added measure.

Little dog was very persistent and would sneak over to that hole many many times a day to see his new best friend.

No kitty for you Phinley, sorry.

This all happened the first night.

The next morning, Ryan and I decided to take Phinley outside to investigate the grounds. I had the brilliant idea of letting him off his leash {we never do this at home}. Nevermind the bobcats, deer, other lose dogs in the area, and my personal favorite: skunks :0) I thought he would just frolic in the grass as we sat in comfy chairs,

HA!

It took .07 seconds for him to spot the wondering neighbor cat, chase it through the woods and up into a tree.

That's my boy.

Once we actually saw the cat in the tree we thought it might be stuck, so Jenn had to call the neighbors {who just happen to be vets} to come over and see if they could help.

Did I mention it was 7am?

Anyways....we finally got Phinley to leave the cat and come out of the woods.

The cat found its way down shortly thereafter.

The whole experience {that and licking up a handful of rocks covered in grill grease from the driveway} just wore Phin out....so he spent the rest of the day watching and relaxing from the comfort of the Go Buggy.

Tied up, of course.

Other than that little episode he was a really really good boy! He slept and sat around the rest of the weekend. I think that first adventure really took it out of him!

And it turns out they don't really like that neighbor cat....so maybe it was a blessing he chased it down! Even before the sun was fully up!!
