naughty cute little dog

Can you believe this cute little dog was naughty this weekend?

Well, he was.

Definitely naughty.

I won't go into details, but hopefully he'll learn something new and super useful tonight at Puppy Kindergarten!

The skills he's learned so far he's been doing really well with -- my personal favorite is "leave it."

If we're walking and he picks something up {like a piece of paper} I just say "leave it" in my mean voice and he'll drop it {like 95% of the time}! I think it's great.

But Ryan and I both think his personal best is "touch" the word we use for come. If we whisper the word he comes charging and sits in front of us waiting for a treat. ha!

So although he's been a super star in the things he's learned so far, I'd like to get his biting {he really only does this with me} and jumping up under control. I don't like that he jumps up on people or up on chairs and things...but that's just me.

Anyways! He's smart...I know he'll learn! He's still a little baby, under 5 months old! I guess I'll cut him a small break once in a while! What can I say -- Harris standards are high!

**he's being a very good boy right now :0) sleeping**

"Leave it" is the best command ever! And you will be sooooooo thankful you taught that command after you have kids and he tries to go after the baby (as in lick or jump, not really 'go after') or tries to steal baby toys. I think a lot of people overlook that command until it's too late...

Any other commands you love that we need to teach?? We're going to puppy K, but it's nice to know what others suggest too! Thanks!

I think Puppy K usually covers the basics. We use "come" as strictly a recall command and when we taught that we tried to make it fun. One of us would hide somewhere in the house with a treat and yell it so the dogs would have to find us. I think that has helped them overall respond to it positively when we *seriously* want them to come (like when they're off leash and we're on the other side of a field at my in-laws and they want to head the other direction after a bunny) because they still think of come as a game.

We use "let's go" when we walk on leash and sometimes use that if we're in the house and we're going to be leaving and taking the dogs.

I also think "stay" is an important command that a lot of people overlook or never fully teach. Our puppy k wouldn't pass a dog unless the dog could do a sit/stay for a full 60 seconds.

I think you guys are doing great with his training!!! :-)
