Woof Woof!

I grew up with dogs. First Rags, and then Alex.

Rags was a full breed cocker spaniel. She was so dear with her long curly haired ears. She didn't always like the neighbor ladies, but she loved her family :0) I remember having her for a long time before we had to put her down.

A couple of years later we got Alex! She loved people and was a medium sized ball of energy! She couldn't be let outside without being tied up because she would run and run and run and run, then come home stinky (she liked to roll in stuff...gross).

I loved her so much.

When my parents moved to NC, they just couldn't keep her anymore, so she was given to a loving family who lived on a farm...she had the world at her paw steps, or at least the boundaries of the farm!

I always said that when I grew up and had my own house I would have a dog, because I love them so much -- anyone in my family could tell you this. I heart animals.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not crazy about the rolling in other animals poop part, but everything comes with a negative in some form or another.

Well, recently, I've been thinking a lot about how a dog would be a great addition to our family. I had my reservations, but doesn't anything with such responsibilty have a downside (other than new babies?) and isn't it normal to weigh it all out....good and bad.

I've been home a lot recently and will be in the future when Ryan starts training for his new job. I can't help it if I want another little companion to keep me company.

Traveling with a dog is rotten, I'm no fool, I know this. But I think there's a point where you just have to say, we'll work it out. We both have college educations and know plenty of dog lovers (4 couples in our small group have dogs!)....I think we could think of something!!

Just for fun (haha....yeah right) I was looking through a local online newspaper for any mixed puppies for sale and came across a shitzhu-bichon mix. I wasn't sure what that would look like, so I looked it up and oh my gosh look what I found....

Just the cutest, perfect size, hypoallergenic, little pup you've ever seen!!
I know many of you out there in the blogging world have dogs -- what's your opinion about getting a new pooch to join the family??

I definitely suggest spending time with any breed you're considering and honestly assessing how that kind of dog will fit into your lifestyle. I love Wrigley, but we will never get another fox terrier. Jordan loves the breed, but Wrigley has way too much energy for me!

Thanks for the feedback Kelsey! The breed I was looking into is a mix (shitzu-bichon). Full breeds are so expensive! haha This combo is small and doesn't weigh much, which is what we need for our townhouse! A great dane would be a head turner, but definitely impractical!!

I completely agree with Kelsey that you should spend time with a breed you are considering/do lots of research. All breeds have their quirks, health problems, etc so it is good to know what you are getting into.

Have you considered adoption at all? We adopted our second dog (small mixed breed) when she was about nine months old and it is considerably cheaper than buying a puppy because they are already spayed/neutered and up-to-date on shots. I volunteer once a week at the Humane Society and there are so many dogs that need homes and many are pure bred.

If you do decide to get a puppy be very careful of backyard breeders and puppy mills. Unfortunately PA is crawling with them...

Good luck - yes they are lots of work but we love both dogs so much and can't imagine our lives any other way.

p.s. Not all dogs are a pain to travel with - we actually take both dogs in the car very often on short and long trips and they do great (and love it)!

We're looking for a mutt, but I have been researching various breeds quite a bit! We open to anything at this point...we just want her to be healthy!
