happy times in first grade

I was so glad I got called to sub for first grade today!

I knew that since Ryan was working tonight I had to get out of the house during the day for a few hours!

If I was in first grade I would have been pretty excited about today for several reasons. Let's think....

1. It's friday.
2. A major snow storm is coming.
3. We were getting out of school an hour early.
4. Pizza was for lunch.
5. There was a sub {!}
6. We were making our Valentine's Day mailboxes {rock on!}
7. It was someone's 1/2 birthday and we got overly sweet cupcakes for afternoon snack

Sounds pretty good, right?

So why, I wonder, did 4 kids end up crying?

The first cryer didn't even want to come in the room this morning. She cried maybe 5 times throughout the entire day. It was amazing.

The second cryer just needed some alone time today. She spoke to nobody the entire day and sat at her desk most of the afternoon. I thought at first she was sick and at one point ran towards her asking if she was going to throw up, but then she started to cry and pulled her hair in front of her face. Hmm.

The next little one didn't only cry, but had a complete meltdown underneath her group table. She later informed me that it was hard being at this school and she wanted to move back to {bleep} where her classmates liked her. Wow, what did I miss? One minute she's giggling and sticking heart stickers on her Valentine's mailbox and the next she wants to leave this school forever.

Finally, one little guy was so confused about whether he was suppose to take the bus or his Dad was coming to pick him up, he had a little breakdown. It's tough keeping your ride straight. He asked me over and over and you know what? I had no idea what he was suppose to do.

I guess it's pretty tough being in first grade.
