Good Dog

Phinley has been home with us for 1 whole week already!

He was about 14 weeks when we got him, so a little larger than your typical new pup (8weeks). Everyone keeps commenting on how big he is, but I think that's just because they picture a little, tiny, fit-in-your-hand size puppy -- that's usually their size when they first come home.

This last week has been a pretty big one for him! He traveled with us over Christmas to visit Ryan's parents. I was pretty worried about how he would behave -- I didn't want him to pee and poop on the carpet, or chew up things! In our house it's not ideal, but not that big of a deal...in someone else's house that's a whole different story! I was probably a little uptight about it, but it was important to me!

Well, our little champ didn't pee or poop once in the house! He went outside each time and rarely cried when we kept him in his crate/bathroom area. I was so proud of him! I know Ryan's parents would understand if he did have an accident, considering he was only with us and being trained for 3 days, but we still didn't want it to happen.
Actually, ever since Christmas eve he hasn't had an accident once in our house either! I would never leave him alone, but I think he's at least getting the idea of going outside...that's a plus!

He also met his new doggie cousin Sadie in NJ. At first, he wasn't too into the idea (he's weird about meeting new dogs), but after a bit he warmed up to Sadie and I think will be a great little playmate down the road. Phinley is still so puppish that's it's just crazy when he comes across other dogs!
I've been trying to take him for a lot of walks and give him lots of exercise since I'm able to be home with him during this week. This is what he looked like after our long walk yesterday....
He was a tired little guy.

It's a lot of work training him, but I knew it would be. I'm working on getting him not to bite (even play puppy bite) or jump up...that one is tough. I just need to keep telling myself he's only an energetic little puppy and will get there :0)! He's made good progress so far!
