the early bird catches the flight

At 3:50am my alarm went off and so began our journey to Mexico.

Our flight left from Baltimore at 9:30am, so we had to make sure we made it there 2hrs ahead of time and since we live 2hrs from Baltimore well, you get the idea...it was an early morning!

It was all smooth sailing, err...flying, up until we exited the Mexican airport and I realized I looked utterly ridiculous in my jeans, sneakers, and sweatshirt.

It's hott in Mexico!

Our resort was about an hour from the airport, so we had to hire these smooth looking guys to drive us to our hotel. There were there waiting for us, with smiles on their face no less!

It was just the 2 of us in a 15-passenger van on our way to paradise.....

Turning into the Grand Bahia Principe resort we saw this....

I heart palm trees. I tried to take a picture of the resort sign, but it was huge and didn't even begin to fit in the shot!
Our room was great. It was plenty big for the 2 of us and had a great view of palm trees and just a smidgen of the "party" pool...more on that later.

This was the view from our terrace.

Another angle
The bed was ridiculously large. We weren't sure which was to sleep on it...we fit laying either direction! haha The whole time it didn't even feel like we were sleeping in the same bed -- we were so far apart!

As soon as I got to the hotel I pulled my hair back and got my flip flops on! When the humidity hits my hair it's instantly like 5x bigger and I didn't need to mess with that during our first huge buffet meal!

The buffet was out of control. There was so. much. food. My favorite was the fruit! It was amazing!! I think I've eaten enough honey dew to last me until summer! It was glorious :0)
I'm not sure if this is Ryan before or after dinner. I think if it was after dinner he would have been lying down {he always got very full} so my guess is before. He's studying the resort map no doubt. Even though he had that thing memorized, we still managed to get lost!

After dinner we took the tram around to the other hotels at the resort, there were 3 total, and looked at the beach in the dark :0) The place was so big they had trams that went around so you didn't have to walk for miles and miles to get from one place to the next.
We didn't do much else that first day, just relaxed and went to bed early so we could hit the beach first thing the next day!
